The idea of low threshold charity came to be to our founder Anu Santaniemi in 2017 when she was visiting Nepal, but the urge to do good had been hatching in her mind for years while travelling around the world.

In 2018 an organization named Nepal Namaste Dreams ry was founded. “Namaste” is a general greeting used mainly in Nepal and India. We at Namaste Dreams are welcoming the dreams of the children of Nepal by working towards a better education and job opportunities in the area.

Our mission is to support the education of disadvantaged Nepalese children and their families, aid general wellbeing and also to promote women’s work opportunities in Nepal.

EDUCTION

Our mission is to give the opportunity to go to school to the most disadvantaged children and youths by e.g. by having school uniforms done, donating school supplies and assisting with school fees. Shree Mahadev's primary school in the mountain village of Pockhari Chauri is our primary support target.

WELL-BEING

We support the poorest families by distributing clothing donations, hygiene products and food, such as rice. For us it is extremely important that the help goes to those who really need it. That's why we try thoroughly look into the families we support.

EQUALITY

Nepal has traditionally been a patriarchal country and often, especially in the poorest families, the education of the sons is prioritized. Our ambition is that everyone regardless of their gender, caste or wealth would have the opportunity to get an education.

WHAT DO WE DO?

In Finland Namaste Dreams collects donations - such as used baby and children’s clothes as well as school supplies - and delivers them to those in need in Nepal. We aim to give a new life to things that others no longer need and thus reduce waste.

We’re cooperating with i.a. Kathmandu’s municipal teaching hospital, the community of the Pochari Chauri’s mountain village and the Shree Mahadev’s Primary School. To cover our expenses and to purchase donations we sell Nepalese handicrafts in Finland.

Miksi juuri Nepal?

During her travel Anu met a local riksha driver Narayan Dhakal who during a tour around the Kathmandu told her about the poverty in Nepal and the weak position of children. Narayan himself has four children and is also taking of his nephew, whose parents are unable to provide for him.

Despite the fact that over 95 % of children start primary school in Nepal, ca. 1,2 million children from the ages 5 to 16 have either never attended school or have been forced to quit school. Several schools are still under constructions after the earthquake of 2015.
